The first photos of the DeZir the concept car from Renault has been released by the company itself and that too ahead of the world premiere scheduled at the Paris Motor Show to be held in September 2010. The styling and the design of this new concept car is a sure fire indication of the new direction that Renault in taking in its designs. The Renault styling fame is going to pick up once again it appears.
Renault design department was taken over in 2009 by Laurens van den Acker from the erstwhile designer Patrick le Quement. Since that change this has been the first project of the company and therefore Laurens first for Renaults. The designer has had previous association with Mazda and there was responsible for the Nagara, Ryuga and Hakaze concept projects. He has also had association with Ford and Audi.
The major difference in the design features that one gets to notice is the front end styling. This feature of the DeZir as per the company is all set to become the trademark of all future Renault models.
The doors are Gulling style and measures 4.2 meter in length by 1.1 meter in height. That means the doors are lower by 216 mm and slightly longer than the Audi.
The DeZir is powered by an electric motor which is mounted in a mid-rear position. It drives the rear wheels. The battery pack is a 24 kWh lithium ion pack which is located behind the bench seat and it gives a range of 160 km or 100 miles per charge.
The motor itself generates 110 KW or 150 hp and 226 Nm torque which is the same motor used on the other Renault manufactured electric cars albeit with the power upgraded in case of the DeZir.
The body is made of Kevlar which is light weight material and this sets the weight of the DeZir at 830 kg or 1830 pounds. The acceleration specifics of the car read as 0 to 100 kmph or 62 mph in 5 seconds. The top speed of the car is fixed at 180 kmph or 112 mph.
