Secrets in the automobile industry are rare. Too many tongues that wag and too many sources that leak out the best of secrets are perhaps more relevant to the automobile industry than anywhere else. Such a phenomenon has once again come to the fore when it was revealed that BMW announced would be bringing the new generation 6 Series to the Paris Motor Show to be held in October. However, while this might be common knowledge to many out there, what was not known to most people is that they are also going to add up a Shooting Brake version of the 6 Series and bringing it along during the show. And this was leaked out by none other than the product development chief at BMW Dr Klaus Draeger. The concept of this car is expected to be launched under the name of “Gran Turismo” and the decision to finally go for full production would depend upon the reaction received from the people at the Paris Show.
There are however other cars that are in line for production stage. They are the two door coupe and the convertible. Both are expected to hit the market by early next year. Thereafter there is the production of the Gran Coupe which is slated to be the competitor for the Mercedes CLS. Instead of a hatchback tailgate like that of the Audi 7 or the Porsche Panamera this one would have a standard saloon body style and be in the market in 2012. The engine fitted on this car would be the 3.0 liter six cylinder petrol and diesel units. It would also have the option of the 4.4 liter V8 engine. Draeger said “Since we use the same drive architecture as the 5, 6, and 7-Series, we are [also] able to bring a hybrid version.”
