Rolls Royce Phantom 102EX with Full-Electric Drive

The Geneva Motor Show would witness a fully electric Phantom model from Rolls Royce. This would be a test case by the British car maker for battery powered cars.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of the company said from the company’s headquarters in Goodwood: “We have engineered the world’s first battery electric vehicle for the ultra-luxury segment. With this vehicle, we begin an exploration into alternative drive-trains, seeking clarity on which alternative technologies may be suitable to drive Rolls-Royce motor cars of the future.”

The name of the vehicle is Phantom Experimental Electric (EE) with model name as 102EX. The car would be out on a world tour starting 2011 and owners and enthusiasts of Rolls Royce cars in Europe, Middle East, Asia and North America would get the opportunity not only to test drive the car but discuss their opinions directly with the car maker.

The car is expected to give good range of travel on one charge as well as being fit to operate in extreme weather conditions. Reliability is also another factor that Rolls Royce is looking into to be sure of meeting customer expectations.

Muller Otvos adds, “I must be convinced that any alternative drive-train we choose for the future delivers an authentic Rolls-Royce experience. It must be a technology that is right for our customers, our brand and which sets us on a sound footing for a sustainable future.”

Full technical details of the car would be available to all at the Geneva Motor Show.
