We already talked about this in a previous report, but it seems that even though it was expected to make its appearance sometimes this year or in 2012, the new eco-friendly Audi A6 will hit the dealers in the United States in 2014. Beside this its official appearance set for this year in Europe, which was also postponed, not by 2014, as the US market, but by 2012.
Because of these last-minute changes, being the most expected European car on the market in the US, the new A6 Hybrid could lose some of its future customers who most likely won’t expect the car to arrive in 2014.
According to Audi, the new “eco-friendly” A6 will get technological setup from the Q5 Hybrid. This means that the new Audi A6 Hybrid will be powered by a four-cylinder 2.0 TFSI turbo charged direct-injection, which will be assisted by a 40 kW electric motor. These two will be directly mounted behind one another, the 2.0 TFSI and the electric motor of the Audi A6 hybrid form a parallel hybrid system. Together the two units have a brief system output of 180 kW (245 hp) and a system torque of 450 Nm (354.03 lb-ft).
Also, according to the car maker, the sedan accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 7.3 seconds and has a top speed of 238 km/h (147.89 mph). In the European standard driving cycle, the Audi A6 hybrid consumes less than 6.4 liters per 100 km (36.75 US mpg) – that equals CO2 emissions of less than 146 grams per km (234.96 g/mile). The 73-liter (19.28 US gallon) fuel tank ensures a long range. (These performance and consumption data are provisional).
Transmission of the new Audi A8 Hybrid will be an eight-gear automated with three functioning modes, EV (priority for the electric motor), D (both engines) and S (priority for the petrol engine).
The new model will be available, by the time it reaches the US dealerships in 2014, for the starting price of 65.000 dollars.
