The 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show is almost open, so automakers are starting to offer details with what will de on display at their stands from September. Now Alfa Romeo has released a teaser image in which the auto maker is announcing the unveiling of the 4C sports car at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
This image doesn’t show much, but at least it looks the same as the Geneva concept, with the exception of the color that’s been changed to a more realistic metallic gray.
With this new car Alfa Romeo returns in the sports car segment. As a refresher, the 4C concept study in Geneva was fitted with a 1.75-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine pushing 200-horsepower towards the rear axle via a twin dry clutch automatic transmission dubbed “Alfa TCT”.
The 4C will probably borrow materials and technology from the 8C Competitione and thanks to aluminum and carbon fiber body panels, the car will have a total curb weight of 850 kg. It will likely feature the same engine that powers the Giulietta model with an extra 35 horsepower.
Sergio Marchionne, Fiat’s CEO, has promised the Alfa Romeo 4C will hit the European showrooms in the first half of next year, while the US market might get its hands on the first units in late 2012. This means that we’ll probably get to see the full production version in Frankfurt, and all the technical details will be clarified.
