by Alex

Despite the fact that Fisker has just started deliveries of its Karma range-extended electric car and many major car makers are still years away from launching electric cars of their own, the American manufacturer has ambitious plans to launch a range of new models over the next few years.

According to What Car?, company boss Henrik Fisker, speaking at the launch of its range-extender Karma model, revealed his plans to develop the Fisker brand and these plans includes of course the Karma saloon, which goes on sale in the UK in September and an unexpected crossover built on the Karma’s underpinnings. This one will be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show next month and it’s due to go on sale in 2012.

Also, Fisker includes in its future plans a folding hard-top convertible version, “for sunset.” This one will be called the Karma S and will be launched in 2013.

Big plans, aren’t it? Well, that’s not all because tha automaker is also working on a new gearbox. Fisker is reportedly working on a two-speed design that will improve fuel economy and a higher top speed compared with the Karma’s current one-speed direct-drive system.

Finally, the car that will be cheaper and more practical than the Karma, Fisker’s second model line will be the smaller Nina, and it’s due on sale in late 2013.

Price:
– the current Karma is priced at $95,900
– the upcoming models will probably be priced somewhere around $100,000, excepting Nina, which will be significantly cheaper than the current Karma
