At the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show the Japanese automaker Subaru unveiled the sporty XV Concept based on its latest-generation 2012 Subaru Impreza Hatchback. The Subaru XV Concept, with a toughened exterior look courtesy of flared wheel arches, lower body protection and roof racks, hinted at a possible replacement for the outgoing Impreza Outback Sport.

Now, the production version of that concept is to make its world debut at this upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show this fall and the the Japanese car maker has released this teaser.

In the U.S., the 2012 Subaru XV will be badged as the Impreza Outback and is the production version of the design concept “SUBARU XV CONCEPT” displayed last April at Shanghai motor show, a concept that “was favourably received globally thanks to its distinctive and trendy design which blend a crossover-like commanding silhouette and an urban friendly image into one harmonious and elegant package.”

As a reminder, the concept is powered by a 2.0l 4-cylinder Horizontally-Opposed DOHC engine, paired to a Lineatronic CVT transmission. Its styling features included hawk-eye headlamps, hexagonal-shaped rear and a panoramic glass roof. The concept also sat on aluminium alloy wheels with silver spokes, black rims and clear blue centre caps.

In addition, at the interior, the defining traits are the silvery white leather, sporty mesh in selected areas, yellow green piping and a large multifunction display in the centre panel.

The new model will be unveiled at the Subaru press conference, scheduled at 9.30am on September 13th.

Pricing details remain unknown for the moment, but the new model will probably be priced around $20-22,000
