According to Bimmerfile, quoting Dave Buchko, a spokesman for BMWNA, BMW has ended production for its X6 Active Hybrid.

In addition to that,  there are currently no plans to upgrade the system or offer the current X6 in another hybrid form.

About two years ago, the German car maker introduced an X6 featuring a version of the Global Hybrid Cooperation hybrid power train (also known as the two-mode hybrid system). Soon after the official debut, this vehicle was confirmed as being called the BMW ActiveHybrid X6. While at that time it was the most powerful hybrid vehicle, it turned out to be one of the most expensive vehicles in the BMW lineup, starting at $89,775 .

Refresher: The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 takes it power from a 400-hp, 4.4-liter, twin turbo V8 teamed with two electric motors that produced 480 total hp and 575 lb-ft torque. Considering that this vehicle was a two-mode hybrid, it could run exclusively on electricity from its battery pack for about two miles going at a top speed of 37mph. Top speed of X6 Hybrid is electronically limited to 130 mph.

However, despite all the green and high-tech features, its extremely high fuel consumption (18 mpg) was the main reason that made it one of the most criticized cars of its class.
