World Record: Infiniti M35h sets Guinness World Record for Fastest Accelerating Full Hybrid [Video]

by Ionut Dragomir

In a time when the number of hybrid cars is growing, Infiniti’s latest new model for Europe, the M35h, has sped into the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s fastest accelerating full hybrid model.

This petrol/electric luxury sedan, fitted with a 364HP engine, clocked a quarter mile time of 13.9031 seconds (average of all runs) at the UK’s Santa Pod Raceway, with a passing speed of over 160 km/h (100 mph), which is very impressive. In addition to that, the M35h has a 0 to 60 acceleration time of 5.5 seconds.

“The Infiniti M35h proves that hybrids can be fast as well as frugal,” said Tim Pollard, associate editor of the UK’s CAR Magazine. “At Santa Pod you could feel the instant torque of the electric motor away from the standstill – the car just leapt of the line. I tried changing gears manually, but it was fastest in automatic.”

Based on this great prestation, the japanese car maker claims that its M35h can compete without any problem not only supercars of the past like the Lamborghini Countach, but even contemporary sports cars like Porsches, Ferraris and Aston Martins.

Refresher: The Infiniti M35h takes its power from a 305HP 3.5-liter gasoline V6 and a 50kW (68HP) electric motor. Despite the fact that it’s a hybrid, the M35h has an average fuel consumption of 7.0 lt/100 km (33.6 US mpg) and emits 162 g/km of CO2.
