Isuzu Motors has confirmed its plan to set up manufacturing plants in India at the Sri City in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The Japanese utility vehicle maker is learned to be investing about Rs 1,000 crore to boost up production of 50,000 vehicles annually.
The final announcement is still awaited and is expected to be made in Hyderabad on March 15 this year, and by 2015 it will start the
commercial production. Before the set up is ready, Isuzu Motors will
be using the Chennai car plant of Hindustan Motors at Tiruvallur.
Sri City is close to Chennai.
According to sources, in the initial stage the car giant will be
rolling out sports utility MU7 Choiz with 3.0-litre engine and mounted pick-up V Cross with 2.5-litre engine.
Isuzu Motors is well known across the globe for its diesel technology
and it has given to the industry vehicles comprising of heavy-,
medium- and light-duty trucks, buses, industrial-use diesel engines
and passenger vehicle engines.
In India the company will be concentrating on SUVs and pick-ups only as of now.
