After more than three decades, Audi has built their five millionth model with a quattro all-wheel drive system.
The white A6 3.0 TDI came out of the assembly line at the company’s German plant and was given a grand treatment along with a photo session with an original Quattro model.
Audi‘s quattro beginnings dates back to winter of mid seventies when engineers were testing front-wheel drive prototypes in snow-covered Sweden. Where it was quickly recognized that the 75 HP (55 kW) all-terrain vehicle was performing well than more powerful samples. This made the team to start work on an all-wheel drive model with immediate effect.
The model which came out of shadow, the legendary Audi Quattro, made its actual appearance at the 1980 Geneva Motor Show and although production was planned to be limited initially, excess demand forced the company to drag it around till 1991.
Let us wish Audi a hearty congratulations and hope they cross more milestones in future.
