If the reports are to be believed, Ford will be slashing around 4,000 USD from the Focus Electric‘s price tag for the 2014 model year.
The Blue Oval has reportedly taken this decision in view of the poor sales of the Focus Electric which has been available in the market since last spring. While the current model has comes with a base price of 39,200 USD, the 2014 model will start from 35,200 USD, which is less by 4,000 USD. However the price cut may not be of much help as the electrified Focus is still lot more expensive than the 2013 Nissan Leaf which comes with a base price of 28,800 USD, following a huge 18 percent price decrease compared to the 2012MY.
Till June of this year, Ford managed to deliver 41,000 units of the Focus Electric which may not sound too much but it represents a 385 percent increase compared to the similar period of 2012. The company has been offering various incentives and price cuts along with a broader availability because of which the sales have picked up but still remains an under-performer.
Now a further cut by the company for the next year may again increase the response of the model but will it work, we will have to wait and see.
