Mercedes has recently announced its plans to rapidly expand their lineup of hybrid vehicles.
It is a well known fact that their hybrid system is modular and quite scalable, the company has now confirmed plans to launch numerous new hybrids in the future. The company however declined to go into specifics but said the hybrid system can work with inline four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines as well as V6 petrol engines.
Mercedes has also claimed that the S 500 Plug-in Hybrid will be launched somewhere in next year 2014 and would set new standards in the luxury class mainly due to a fuel consumption rating of less than 4 L/100km (58.8 mpg US / 70.6 mpg UK).
Again not much detail is available about the model as of now, but it is expected that it would feature an electric motor, an 8.7 kWh battery and a six-cylinder petrol engine that would generate an output of 333 HP (245 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque.
Well we have to say the plans of the company are quite enormous and if they manage to do what they are stating now, it would a nice icing on the cake and would help the company gain a decent market share with timely launch of hybrid models.
