Report: 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen all-wheel drive due late 2014 in U.S.

by SpeedLux

As per one of the recent reports, Volkswagen‘s U.S. division is planning to make an all-wheel drive wagon based on the Golf VII.

If the reports are to be believed, Volkswagen has already approved an AWD variant of the Golf-based Jetta SportWagen which will reach stateside late next year. This model could probably be a follow up in terms of philosophy to the Passat based Alltrack Concept shown by the company last year at the New York Auto Show.

In terms of changes, other than the all-wheel drive setup, the Jetta SportWagen is most likely to come with an increased ride height and body cladding.

The alleged Jetta derivative is actually being launched by the company to compete in the U.S. with the popular Subaru Outback. The Subaru’s model was sold last year in 117,553 units, thus making it Subaru’s best-selling model in the US and if we talk about the sales and performance ration, the model outsold the Jetta SportWagen by almost five to one.

Well we will have to wait and see if this works for VW and if they can get some market share and of course try to give some competition to its one of the most popular selling cars in that segment.
