Toyota has officially released the first full image of the Yaris Hybrid-R Concept, ahead of a public launch scheduled to take place at IAA in September.

Based on the three-door Yaris, the concept is powered by a 1.6-liter Global Race Engine (GRE) which works together with two electric motors which enable the car to have an all-wheel drive arrangement.

The Yaris Hybrid-R Concept does use some of the technology from the TS030 Hybrid race car, such as the possibility to recover energy under braking in a super capacitor and then deliver it to the powertrain which helps to get an extra boost. Interestingly, the company also claims that this tech is suitable for use in a sports car as well and from which we can make out that very soon this technology could probably be implemented in the GT86.

The Japanese auto maker has plans to showcase its latest developments in fuel cell hybrid vehicles in the Frankfurt Motor Show in the coming month that would be held in Germany. There is already FCHV production model which is due in 2015. By the end of that year the company will have introduced no less than 16 new or updated hybrids.
