Tesla Motors has recently announced that Model S is the safest car ever to be tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Although NHTSA doesn’t give more than five stars for the cars that they crash test, Tesla Motors claims that the Model S achieved safety levels better than the five stars given in the overall Vehicle Safety Score (VSS) and in fact has managed to obtain a combined 5.4 stars. Also, the electric sedan has set a new record for the lowest likelihood of injury to the passengers inside the car.
The biggest advantage that works in the favour of the Model S is that it doesn’t have a conventional engine in the front which means the car gets a significantly more extensive crumple zone that can absorb a high-speed impact, thus lowering the chances of injuries for the people inside.
The car also performed well in the side pole intrusion test which is mainly due to its deep multiple aluminum extrusions in the side rail which can absorb the impact energy and transfer the load to the rest of the car.
Nothing is more important than the safety of the people inside and this car truly deserves lots of accolades for its results. Bravo!
