Jaguar iQ(Al) platform to spawn a range of models

by SpeedLux

Jaguar recently introduced their aluminum monocoque iQ[Al] platform and now new details are starting to emerge of the models that will use this platform.

The company had already confirmed earlier that the architecture will underpin their 2015 mid-size premium vehicle, but now Jaguar Vehicle Line Director Kevin Stride was quoted saying to The Detroit Bureau that they are planning to use this architecture to span quite a range of products and that too in a “breadth of segments … and sizes.”

However the executive declined to give further details about the specifics but did confirm that the platform is highly flexible and that it can be used to support vehicles of different lengths, widths and heights. Not only that, the platform can well handle rear- and all-wheel drive as well as electrical drive systems.

A production version of the C-X17 concept is virtually a given but there are rumours that are indicating that the company could also use this platform to underpin a model that would compete with BMW 1-Series / Mercedes A-Class.

The company did not mention as to when the additional models will be introduced but Kevin did hint that the company wants to build more great Jaguars quickly.
