Tesla Motors, the company behind the phenomenal Model S electric vehicle (EV), is determined to introduce the Model III sedan in the upcoming 2016. The American automaker is planning to introduce this model as a 2017 model year. Yet, it seems that the company is not going to settle for the Model III sedan only. Instead, it wants a bigger market share when it comes to the compact car industry. As such, Tesla has made it clear that there may as well be wagon and crossover variants of the Model III sedan.
As reported by the Auto Express, Chris Porritt, the vice president of engineering for Tesla Motors, reveals that the company is actually planning to reach a broader market segment with the Model III. With wagon and crossover variants of the model, this is something that is very possible to achieve. In fact, we may even expect to see estate and SUV variants as well in the future. Yet, there is one question that remains here. What kind of price ranges that Tesla Motors will have to offer customers for the different Model III variants?
Well, for the Model III sedan, Tesla Motors is demanding an amount of cash ranging from $48,300 to $56,300. Offering the appropriate price tags, as Porritt puts it, will determine how the company will do in the future, whether it will flourish or perish. He also adds that the technology used in the present is, unfortunately, quite costly. As a result, the company will have to figure out some ways that will help them decrease the costs required to produce the Model III.
Now, before the Tesla Model III finally makes it to the dealerships, Tesla Motors will be working on the Model X, which the company will start producing next year. The Model X will be electrically powered and it will fill the mid-size SUV segment. It will have an all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain and, just like what we have seen from the concept, it will retain its falcon wing style rear doors.
