There is good news for any Volkswagen fans out there. The said German automaker has now taken the veil off its new vehicle model dubbed the Cross Coupe GTE. The company unveils the vehicle just before the 2015 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) event actually kicks off this year.
The vehicle in question is meant to give a clue to the public as to what kind of crossover vehicles that the German company will be bringing to the North American soils. The car comes with stunningly looking LED headlamps and aluminum grille for its front part. Those are not all, though, of course. The car still has strong character lines, gloss black accents, a sloping roofline, muscular fenders, a spoiler mounted on its tailgate and will also sit firmly on a set of aluminum wheels measuring 22 inches.
The car accommodates five passengers inside the cabin. Speaking of the cabin, the car is decorated with aluminum accents, gloss black trim and semi-aniline Nappa leather seats. Other interior elements worth mentioning include an infotainment system that features a display measuring 10.1 inches, a climate control system with touchscreen support and also a digital instrument panel.
The car counts on a hybrid plug-in powertrain in order to move around. It packs a combination of a 14.1kWh lithium-ion battery, two electric motors and a conventional 3.6L V6 engine. The produced power output achieves 355 bhp in total and the torque sits at the mark of 379 Nm. The car has an all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain and needs only six seconds to move from a standing still position to the speed of 100 km/h.
It is true that the Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE is nothing but a concept. Yet, the German company claims it will enter production no later than 2016. The company also reveals that the production version will seat seven passengers and it will be manufactured at VW’s Chattanooga plant in Tennessee, US.
