Audi Confirms Next Generation R8 and R8 E-Tron

by SpeedLux

Some time in the past, the luxury German automaker introduced an e-tron version of its R8 vehicle model. Unfortunately, at a certain point, the company also officially canceled the e-tron version for it was not viable to build the car, according to the company back then. Now, however, the company has once again come up with that variant of the R8. As a matter of fact, the German company claims that the public can expect to see both the regular Audi R8 and the Audi R8 e-tron of the next generation in the upcoming Geneva Motor Show that will kick off in March 2015.

As reported by the CarAdvice, Ulrich Hackenberg, the board member in the company who is in charge of technical development, an all-electric e-tron variant of the Audi R8 will make bow alongside the successor to the present generation Audi R8. Development of the very first Audi R8 e-tron has now been completed, as Hackenberg puts it.

Nonetheless, customers hoping to get a manual transmission for the company’s upcoming R8 model will most likely get disappointed. Hackenberg points out that a dual clutch transmission is already extremely sporty in nature. In addition to that, Hackenberg also adds that if people want to record their very own lap time in an extremely sporty style and at a high speed, they will definitely need a dual clutch transmission.

Just as a reminder, speaking of the R8 e-tron, Hackenberg previously mentioned that the model would be the base of the technologies to expect on the future Audi models. Rumor has it that the vehicle will be able to reach a distance of 400 km on a single charge. Yet, today, he claims that Audi is attempting to increase that distance up to 500 km or perhaps even more. This, according to Audi, is the identity of a truly all-electric vehicle.
