There may not be too many people out there that are aware of this news but it has been reported by a media from Germany, which happens to be the home country of BMW, that BMW is actually prepping a new model that will slot below its X1. So far, this vehicle is believed to bear the ‘Urban Cross’ moniker.
Just to remind you, this is hardly the first time that such a rumor emerges on the interweb. Before this, there had also been rumors about the automaker prepping a new model that would slot under the company’s X1 vehicle model. Nonetheless, this time it may turn out legit, against the previous rumors that said the company was planning to release a vehicle model with the ‘1-Series Sport Cross’ moniker. In fact, the Auto Motor und Sport has reported that the upcoming Urban Cross model from BMW will not just be a downsized variant of the company’s X1 model. Instead, the German media in question reports that the petite crossover will feature a visual design different from the company’s vehicle lineups that feature the X badging.
The crossover may look a bit like a coupe and it will measure four meters in length. In addition to that, the car will be able to hold a total cargo volume of 330 liters inside its trunk. Power is to be sent to the front wheels by either a 3- or 4-cylinder engine. A plug-in hybrid variant will reportedly be available as well sometime in the future.
The BMW Urban Cross will reportedly go head-to-head with the Audi Q1 and it will allegedly arrive in the oncoming 2017. As for the price tag, it is expected to start from 25,000 Euros in the automaker’s home country, Germany.
