One of the most successful vehicle lineups ever from the luxury automotive marquee from Bavaria, BMW, is the company’s i-Series lineup. Yes, we are talking about the BMW i3 and i8 here. The i-Series lineup from the company consists of highly innovative and also attractive vehicle models. Yet, it seems that the luxury German automaker is far from satisfied. In fact, according to recent reports, the company is planning to launch yet another i-Series model, namely the i5, in the oncoming year of 2018.
As reported by the AutoBild, the upcoming i5 from BMW will allegedly make use of a hybrid powertrain. This may be similar to that featured on the German company’s 5-Series GT Hybrid concept car. If this proves to be the case, then those who are keen on buying this vehicle can expect a conventional engine, developing 218 HP of power, paired with a couple of electric motor units, delivering 150 HP and 272 HP. In total, the power output is rated at 640 HP.
There are also words that the car will be using the chassis of the long wheelbase variant of the company’s 5-Series model. This one is built exclusively for the Chinese automotive market, if you remember. Yet, as far as design is concerned, the upcoming BMW i5 will most likely be influenced by the marquee’s upcoming 7-Series model. It is also said that the BMW i5 is potentially going to have a size similar to that of the company’s 6-Series Gran Coupe model.
