Faraday Future, electric car company based in Gardena, is excited to start building its battery-electric cars in California.

Having begun just a month earlier on a $1-billion vehicle factory in Nevada, Faraday might add a Vallejo facility to its manufacturing plans.

Pending the result of a city council vote Tuesday, the automobile service could take over a 157-acre parcel on the location’s Mare Island and begin constructing cars within 2 years, Faraday stated Wednesday.

The suggested brand-new center could help Faraday much better compete with Tesla, along with bring in talent and technological development from close-by Silicon Valley.

Both car companies still face significant challenges in scaling up production to fulfill mass-market need in a timely way. If they’re able to do this, a company official said that “a lot” could be at stake.

If provided the green light, Faraday would utilize the facility on Mare Island, which once housed significant U.S. military operations, for vehicle building and business workplaces, but likewise has plans to open a consumer experience and delivery center.
