Hyundai’s performance department is understood as N. N represents Namyang, which is where the brand’s hopped-up cars are developed.
The first N model is going to be based off Hyundai’s i30 hatchback, called the Elantra GT in the US. In the video included below, we get to hear our first taste of the hardcore N version, and child, it’s an aural pleasure. It pops, burbles and marks its way around a test track in the video. It’s a great start for Hyundai’s efficiency division, it sounds much better than Porsche’s new 718 Cayman.
The i30 N ought to be out next year, although we envision there will be a long time prior to it debuts in the US. The redesigned 2017 Elantra is currently on sale, however there’s no GT model on sale yet or even announced.
