Ford to restart 24-hour shift in Brazil plant

The Brazilian unit belonging to Ford Motor plans to resume 24-hour production at its Camaçari, Bahia, plant, in an indication of optimism with Brazil’s economic healing, O Estado de S. Paulo paper stated on Saturday.

About 400 workers that have suspended since March, when Ford immobilized the unit’s third shift, will go back to the assembly line, Estado stated.

Lyle Watters, Ford’s chief executive for South America, informed Estado that Camaçari’s third shift will resume in February, with expectations that sales and exports will increase next year, albeit modestly.

“Regardless of the difficult macroeconomic situation, the introduction of the third shift is a sign of Ford’s stronger performance,” Watters informed Estado.

Spokespeople for Ford in São Paulo could not be instantly reached for statement.
