Ford to recall 650,000 automobiles due to seat belt issue

Ford Motor stated Friday it was releasing a recall of around 650,000 Ford and Lincoln sedans in North America, consisting of over 602,000 in the United States, to insulate safety belt anchor pretensioners that might separate in a crash.

Ford states the pretensioner cable might separate because of the increased temperature level created as the safety belt pretensioners deploy. If the cable separates, it might not effectively limit occupants in accident, raising risk of injury.

The automaker stated it is aware of 2 crashes and 2 injuries connected with the issue.

Dealerships at no cost will inject a coating into the front chauffeur and passenger safety belt anchor pretensioners to secure the cable.

The recall covers particular 2013-16 Ford Fusions, 2015-16 Ford Mondeos and 2013-15 Lincoln MKZs.

Ford states 35,614 automobiles remain in Canada, with 8,665 in Mexico and 653 in federalized areas. In overall, Ford is recalling an estimated of 680,000 automobiles consisting of another 30,000 that are in Europe, Asia Pacific and South America.
