French prosecutors are investigated Renault due to presumed cheating on vehicle exhaust emissions, which triggered the automaker’s shares to drop.

On Friday, prosecutors stated they would check out possible cheating by Renault, after independent French specialists discovered precariously high levels of emissions from diesel motor of numerous automakers.

Renault insisted its engines followed “French and European” policies, including that its automobiles did not have software enabling it to dedicate fraud in this area.

Three judges have been checking out the Renault issue, a source informed Reuters. Whether the prosecutor’s questions is followed by a trial is for the judges to choose. They are concentrated on the general public health implications of Renault’s actions.

The investigation follows the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal, that emerged after Volkswagen admitted using defeat device which help cheat emission tests in September 2015.
