Ford understood it needed to play catch-up with its revitalized 2018 Mustang after the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro SS handily wiped it in a wide variety of road tests and contrasts. One of the largest elements was the power figure stemming from the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine.

It’s not a big space, however the present Ford Mustang GT pushes 435 hp from its 5.0 L V8 engine, while the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro pushes 455 hp from its 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine. That could be changing with the 2018 Ford Mustang GT, however.

Ford North America Product Communications Manager Mike Levine tweeted an image of the 2018 Mustang’s new 12-inch digital gauge display, asking followers to discover the Easter eggs hidden in the cluster.

The gear revealed is “4”, while the digital speedometer checks out “55”. It’s believed those numbers represent 455 hp for the revamped Coyote V8 engine.

A 20 hp bump seems manageable, as well, as the Mustang GT gets a new direct injection system and factory quad-tip exhaust. Ford has stayed quiet on the matter, however it appears the pony car wars are heating up once again.

Hopefully we are going to discover more for sure long before it goes on sale this fall, but the Mustang isn’t the only vehicle Ford’s being cryptic with.
