The managing director of British automobile brand Vauxhall, which is being purchased by Peugeot from General Motors, stated on Tuesday the company’s British production sites were essential to the brand’s heritage and sales.

“A key part of the brand heritage is that there is UK manufacturing,” Rory Harvey informed press reporters at the Geneva Motor Show.

Peugeot-maker PSA has consented to purchase GM’s European division, called Vauxhall in Britain and Opel in Europe, prompting issues about the future of the British brand’s vehicle plants.

Inquired about whether the additional cost of importing more costly euro-denominated parts had exceeded the advantages of less expensive exports following a Brexit-induced fall in the pound, Harvey stated the net effect was unfavorable.
