Heidelberg car attack

A man passed away and 2 other individuals were injured after a man drove into a pedestrian area in Heidelberg, Germany.

The attacker said to have been equipped with a knife, was shot, injured and detained by cops in a short standoff after running away the scene on foot.

His motives are uncertain, however there are no signs this was a terrorist attack, cops state.

In December an attacker drove a truck into a Berlin Christmas market, killing 12 individuals and injuring 49.

In Heidelberg the attacker, described by cops as a 35-year-old German “without a migration background”, drove exactly what is thought to be a rental car into pedestrians in among the city’s central squares, hurting 3 individuals. Among them, a 73-year-old German man, who died in hospital.

The attacker then left the automobile but was tracked down, shot and injured by police.

Cops were unable to validate local media reports that the offender was mentally disrupted. He is believed to have acted alone.

The two injured individuals were a 32-year-old Austrian national and a 29-year-old Bosnian woman, police stated. Their injuries are stated to be small and they have been released from hospital.
