Two people were killed in a hit-and-run car crash on State Road 46 near the intersection with Wekiva Pines Boulevard in Lake County, Florida just after 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The driver of a vehicle described only as a possible red sedan was Westbound on SR-46 trying to pass other cars in an area designated as a no-pass zone due to construction in the area.

Another vehicle driven by a 22-year-old Orlando man was moving eastbound and swerved to prevent the oncoming car but overcorrected and drove into oncoming traffic.

Officials say the 22-year-old driver hit a third car head-on. The at-fault vehicle also sideswiped the third vehicle before departing from the scene, continuing westbound on SR-46.

A 56-year-old Eustis woman, the driver of the third vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the second vehicle, identified only as a 19-year-old Eustis woman, succumbed to her injuries at Central Florida Regional hospital.

The 22-year-old driver was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol is looking for the driver they say caused the crash. Anyone with details can contact FHP at (407) 737-2213.
