by Alex

The much awaited coupe from BMW, the brand new Performance Unlimited special edition 1 Series sure has brought the excitement of the people at its brim. With a powerful 2.0 liter four cylinder engine lurking under its hood, the special edition 1 Series however is a Japan specific car and the people of US may not be able to admire this beauty as the company has no plans as yet to launch it in the US. BMW has stated its only for the land of the rising sun and has been specially designed for the people of Japan.

Also, that does not mean the people of Japan can be at ease for its only just 30 samples of the Performance Unlimited 120i coupe that will ever be built. So the folk at Japan, they need to act fast. This special edition coupe will be on offered with two color options – white or blue and is indeed special as it comes with a special 2.0-liter inline-four engine that’s good enough for a cracking 170 hp and has never seen the light of day in the US. Coupled to the engine is a a six-speed automatic transmission that is standard in all the Performance Unlimited models. And that’s not all as the coupe has also been given a healthy dose of quite a few aesthetic upgrades.

Among the most visible external styling treatment include the carbon-fiber-like trunk lip spoiler with matching rear view mirrors, BMW dual grille painted black, 18-inch alloy wheels that have been specially made for the car, aluminum pedals along with a special badge on the inside of the cabin.

If going by what the company claims, the new 120i coupe can easily sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 8.4 seconds which makes this coupe a truly fast beauty. Whereas on the other hand, a base BMW 128i can be yours in the US for $30,000 which also includes destination charges. BMW has stated it will commence delivery of the 1 Series M coupe which is powered by the twin turbo I-6 engine that is capable of producing 350 HP by the start of 2011.
