2011 Hungarian Grand Prix: The Winner Is Button, But Vettel Extends Title Lead

by Sebastian Bivin

Today, at Hungaroring, we saw the 2011 edition of Hungarian Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton started from front row, but Jenson Button won this race. Well this isn’t that surprising considering its performance. Even so, second best was more than good enough for Sebastian Vettel on Sunday, extending his championship lead despite losing the Hungarian grand prix to Jenson Button. Despite the Red Bull flying unchallenged off the start line from pole position, Sebastian Vettel maintained a steady pace to cross the finish line three and a half seconds off the lead followed into third by the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso.

Sebastian Vettel, the Red Bull driver started the slippery Budapest race 77 points ahead of teammate Mark Webber. He ended this race 85 points clear.

McLaren Driver, Briton Button, was just fifth in the world championship before starting his 200th grand prix in similar conditions to his maiden win at the Hungaroring five years ago. Its teammate, Lewis Hamilton may have been on the podium had he not opted to go onto the intermediate tyres at a time when the track was starting to dry after a short shower. In these conditions, he finished on fourth place.

“It’s been clear for a couple of races they’ve made a step forward and we need to come back,” said Vettel.
