2012 McLaren MP4-12C

by Site Default

After a twelve year break from producing road cars, McLaren finally released the MP4-12C. It’s designed to be a Ferrari 458 and Lamborghini Gallardo killer.

Although it is an entirely different car from the McLaren F1, the MP4-12C does have a somewhat similar figure with the before mentioned F1.

This car is powered by a 3.8 L twin-turbocharged M838T V8 engine capable of delivering 592 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. The engine is hooked to a seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission.

The sprint from 0 to 60 takes 3.3 seconds and the vehicle hits a top speed of 205mph.

The MP4-12C’s body is made out of carbon fiber, hence the low weight of only 3000 pounds. The body panels are also light, and are built from aluminum and SMC plastic.

This McLaren features an interesting gearbox, known as the SSG (Seamless Shift Gearbox) which allows the driver to half-press one of the shift paddles in order to preselect the next gear (a downshift or upshift).

This car will be manufactured in about 1,000 examples, which might seem little, but keep in mind though, that McLaren only built 100 of their previous road car model, the F1.

The MP4-12C’s price starts at $229,000, and I think a lot of people will be interested in what McLaren has to offer after the legendary F1.
