2015 Chevrolet Impala Bi-Fuel announced

by SpeedLux

General Motors has recently unveiled the 2015 Chevrolet Impala Bi-Fuel at the OPEC Oil Embargo + 40 summit that was earlier in this month.

GM CEO Dan Akerson is pretty upbeat about this model and he is also well aware of the fact that the natural gas vehicle market has yet not caught on in the United States. The company did not release detailed specifications but the model has a bi-fuel engine that can run on petrol or compressed natural gas (CNG).

The technology is simple, when the CNG tank is empty, the model seamlessly switches to petrol. If both tanks are full, the Impala Bi-Fuel will have a combined range of up to astonishing 500 miles (805 km). More importantly, in CNG mode, the model will be cheaper to operate and will also produce lesser greenhouse gas emissions.

Akerson said that the U.S. energy security won’t come from a one-off moonshot, it will flow from their systematic investment in technology and innovation with their focus to get more from existing energy sources and renewables and with their commitment to conservation. He further states that this commitment will be assured by fully and safely exploiting the shale gas reserves.
