The 2015 Ford Mustang is on its way to production and the closer we get to debut, the more likely we are to see all kind of rumors and speculations about this vehicle. Now, Motor Trend published its own speculation about Ford’s next generation pony car, although many of the details aren’t exactly new.
The magazine claims that the new car will feature an independent rear suspension, believed to be based on the cheap and lightweight Control Blade suspension Ford developed for the hind ends of its modern front-drive cars. It will likely be similar to that of the Australian Ford Falcon.
As for the technical part, the new car might be offered with an EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder. The 3.7-liter V-6 and 5.0-liter V-8s would probably stay right where they are, though MT claims that a direct injection for the 5.0 might be in the works.
According to the same report, a revival of the SVO model is in the works, this time using Ford’s brand-new EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder that is slated to produce 247 horsepower from 2.0 liters. Still MT heared that Ford will increase its displacement to anywhere from 2.3 liters (like the original SVO) to 2.5 liters, with a power boost, of course. However, desespite rumors, for the 2015 Mustang Ford will probably skip the EcoBoost 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6.
The magazine also brings some new details about the design. It seems that the 2015 Mustang will undergo a “radical redesign” that will be less retro. “There will be plenty of classic Mustang cues even as designers throw out the retro,” they state. “A long hood/short deck and crisp, creased upper and lower quarter-panels seem a given.”
Finally, Motor Trend figured out that the second of the 2014 New York Auto Show press days falls on the exact 50th anniversary of the original Mustang’s debut, April 17 1964. Also, if Ford really wants to go overboard, the original base price, times 10, would be just $1570 more than the current base price, bringing it to $23,680.
