British F4 racing motorist Billy Monger, 17, suffered leg injuries after being involved in accident during a race at Donington Park, Castle Donington, Derby on Sunday.
Video footage of the crash from Monger’s dashboard video camera – which was transmitting live on TV at the time of the crash – show his automobile hitting another car, driven by Finnish driver Patrik Pasma.
Pasma’s vehicle was stopped on the track in front of Monger when the teenager knocked into the back of it.
Following the accident, Monger’s car was sent spinning as racing fans watched the event unfold in real time.
The teen’s household has regarded the crash as their ‘worst nightmare’.
His cousin Lucy Bishop tweeted: “Terrifying day! Thinking of my lovely cousin Billy Monger, our worst nightmare! Bert is sending you speedy get better hugs, you’re his hero!’
While Pasma was freed from his vehicle right after the accident, Monger was stuck in the vehicle for 90 minutes as ambulances shown up on scene.
He was eventually extracted from the vehicle at 2.30 pm and was taken to hospital by air ambulance.
Footage of the crash was aired on ITV, and broadcaster ITV4 later verified that Monger was conscious and being addressed. The level of his injuries is unidentified.
