Kia has killed the Forte Koup and there has been death of another two-door coupe, the BMW 6 Series.
The news of BMW 6 Series Coupe was confirmed with a representative at BMW. He provided a formal statement that production ended back in February, however he didn’t provide any information regarding why the model was ceased, or exactly what the future holds for it. He did verify that the 6 Series convertible and Gran Coupe are still in production, but could not comment if they might be ceased in the near future.
The departure of the 6 Series coupe indicates that the midsize luxury coupe section is all but deserted. The only automobile left is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe. And if high-end purchasers do not want that, they’ll have to either upgrade to the huge, costly Mercedes S-Class coupe, or scale down to something like a BMW 4 Series, Audi A5, or Cadillac ATS.
We do not believe we’ve seen the last of healthy-sized BMW coupes, however. Over the past couple of months, BMW has been observed testing a brand-new coupe that could be either a new 6 Series, or possibly a return of the larger 8 Series. Using either nameplate is quite possible. One is currently in use, and the other has turned up in trademarks and declared BMW model documentation.
