The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated Friday it has opened an initial examination into whether safety belt on new 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan sport utility vehicles could stop working throughout a crash.
The firm stated during crash testing in December the driver safety belt webbing completely separated, prompting the investigation into whether the issue could take place in consumer driving. A Volkswagen AG spokeswoman said Friday the Tiguan has performed well in other tests and the automaker will totally cooperate with NHTSA in the investigation and work to determine the cause of the various results between “NHTSA’s and our internal testing”.
Volkswagen introduced the brand-new longer, three-row Tiguan in the United States in 2017 as it broadens offerings of larger vehicles for American customers.
