Audi to launch A7 Sportback next year

by Alex

The star of the Audi camp at the Paris Motor Car Show this September it seems will be the new A7 Sportback. The four-door coupe from Audi has been in the making for sometime now and as per the latest reports available, the Sportback now has entered the final stages of development.

The A7 Sportback is the first model to join the Audi lineup that will be built on the company’s newest mid-size platform and will highlight the seventh-generation A6 slated for a 2011 release. Measuring 4950mm in length, the A7 Sportback is Audi’s answer to the recently launched Mercedes-Benz CLS and will also measure up to the BMW Gran Coupé that was recently unveiled and is slated for a 2012 release.

Topping the lineup will be the RS7 Sportback performance model equipped with a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine from Audi that is good enough for 580 bhp of max power. Transferring that much of power to the wheels will be the company’s new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Audi’s other diesel and petrol engines in V6, V8 and V10 configurations will be powering the other versions of the A7 Sportback while the majority of the models that will go on sale in the UK will be equipped with Audi’s latest 330bhp supercharged 3.0-litre V6 direct injection petrol and 250bhp 3.0-litre V6 common-rail diesel engine. There will also be a RS version of the A7 powered by a V-10 engine. Its likely to be available in the UK from March 2011 onwards.

The A7 Sportback was put on display at the 2009 edition of the Detroit Motor Show.
