Daimler and Transport Ministry agrees to clear up complex emissions issues

German automaker Daimler and the German transport ministry have agreed to clear up very complex technical issues connected with diesel emissions, a spokesman for the ministry stated on Friday.

He informed that concrete steps were agreed after a meeting on Monday where German Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer questioned Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche concerning how many Mercedes-Benz vans and cars need to be repaired after a regulator found illegal software in one of its models.

The ministry was requested to comment on a report in magazine Der Spiegel that stated Scheuer had threatened to fine Daimler 3.75 billion euros ($4.38 billion) concerning a diesel emissions scandal.
