The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance will partner Alphabet Inc’s Google to develop autonomous taxis and other services using self-driving vehicles, the Nikkei reported.
Google’s self-driving car company Waymo is going to work with the automakers and announce a strategy for the arrangement as early as this spring, the business daily reported.
The partners are thinking about the joint development of unmanned taxis using Nissan vehicles and a system that manages reservation and payments, Nikkei stated.
A representative at the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance Nick Twork stated, “This (Nikkei) story is based on rumors and speculation. We have nothing to announce.”
Google’s Waymo refused to comment.
Last month, Nissan Motor stated its board is committed to the automaker’s alliance with Renault SA and Mitsubishi Motors, after directors met to talk about the continued investigation into former chairman Carlos Ghosn and methods to bolster governance.
