Skoda’s first car to use Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform

The Kodiaq-sized Skoda iV Vision concept has been revealed at the Geneva motor show, previewing an acutal production car that will show up sometime in 2021.

Said to be the first pure-electric vehicle from the Czech brand to be based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, the Skoda Vision iV will be significantly larger than VW’s own I.D. Neo that will be introduced later this year.

Measuring in at 4.66-metres long, the Skoda iV Vision has also been constructed to be more of an SUV coupe — and cementing its sporty status are twin-electric motors that generate 225kW.

Able of covering up to 500km between charges, the automaker states that 80 percent recharge takes only 30 minutes when utilizing a fast charger.

Inside, the iV Vision is assumed to preview Skoda’s next-generation approach to minimalist cabin style, including a stepped dash, a large free-standing central infotainment display and small instrument panel strip display.

Helping liberate enough space is the eradication of a transmission tunnel. In its place, Skoda developers have located a large cabinet that provides storage and an area to wirelessly charge about two phones.

The 2019 Vision iV concept has a traditional slatted grille, a full-width LED light strip upfront and red illuminated Skoda lettering at the rear.

It could be launching in 2021, Skoda has already confirmed the production version of the Vision iV will be joined by a standard wagon version that could provide seven seats – making it a considerably cheaper alternative to vehicles such as the Tesla Model X.
