Ford Motor stated on Tuesday it prepares to invest over $1.45 billion at two of its manufacturing facilities in Detroit for building electric, autonomous and sports utility vehicles, and generate 3,000 jobs.
The No.2 U.S. automaker stated it would invest about $750 million at its Wayne facility located in Michigan to make its Bronco and Ranger sports utility vehicles and pickup trucks, and employ 2,700 workers during the next three years.
Ford also stated it prepares to spend about $700 million at its Dearborn plant to make electric and hybrid versions of the F-150 truck and will employ 300 people next year.
The automaker will start assembling battery cells for the F-150’s hybrid and electric versions at the Dearborn facility.
Ford had earlier stated it would invest $11 billion to make 40 new hybrid and completely electric vehicle models by 2022.
