Mahindra & Mahindra to make face shield and ventilators

Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) came forward with its initiative to create affordable ventilators to help fight the spread of coronavirus, has now developed a face shield for the medical service providers.

In a tweet on Saturday, Pawan Goenka, Managing Director of M&M revealed the design of the face shield. He also stated that the company has sourced its design from American automaker Ford Motor and aims to make 500 such face shield on Monday, before increasing the production progressively.

The face shield will be produced by associates of Mahindra & Mahindra Kandivali, with its components being sourced, said Goenka.

The automaker earlier announced that it has joined an existing medical equipment manufacturer to produce an affordable ventilator which would be priced around Rs 7,500 ($99) against the sophisticated machines that can be priced between Rs 5 lakh ($6,637) and Rs 10 lakh ($13,274). This ventilator’s prototype was claimed to be ready under two-three days.

Pawan Goenka, in the same tweet on also stated that the company will update about the ventilator on Monday.

Other than M&M, other automakers in India such as Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, TVS Motor have also joined the battle against coronavirus.

About 1,071 people in India have been confirmed as being infected with the coronavirus. The virus has killed 29 people in the country.
