Amazon to help Toyota build cloud-based data services to monetize data

David BondToyota5 years ago3 Views

Amazon.com Inc’s cloud computing unit will help Toyota Motor build a platform that will help it manage and monetize data taken from the automaker’s global vehicle fleet, the companies stated on Monday.

Toyota stated its Mobility Services Platform will allow it to process and analyze data that can be used for developing vehicle services from the ride and car-sharing to behavior-based insurance and maintenance notifications.

The deal is an expansion of Amazon Web Services’ present collaboration with Toyota, and marks the e-commerce giant’s expansion into the transportation business.

In July, Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced it was expanding a partnership with Volkswagen AG to help develop the German automaker’s cloud-based software and data portal into an industry-wide marketplace where business customers can purchase and sell industrial applications.

In the automotive sector, AWS has also collaborated with automotive suppliers such as Aptiv, Panasonic and Nvidia, transportation providers such as Uber and Avis, and self-driving heavy trucks startups Embark and TuSimple.
