A car caught on fire shortly after striking into a highway barrier at over 100 miles per hour in Austin, Texas.

Witnesses informed that it was about 1:30 a.m. Friday when they observed a Dodge Challenger driving recklessly at extremely high speeds. The driver lost control and struck a barrier along the southbound lanes of I-35 right before the William Cannon exit in South Austin. Even though the vehicle had lost the right front tire, he continued to drive for about another mile.

He ultimately came to a stop on I-35 and the vehicle burst into flames. The driver was able to escape without injury and rejected treatment by EMS.

Police arrested the driver as they investigated whether alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

Soon, the fire crews were able to bring the burning Challenger fire under control.
