Two people were killed and three were injured on early Tuesday morning in a wrong-way crash, probably involving a DUI driver, in Los Angeles, officials said.
The crash took place at about 2 a.m. on the northbound 110 Freeway near 9th Street, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said.
Several traffic lanes were shut.
The driver of a Lexus SUV was driving southbound in the northbound lanes when it crashed with a Toyota Corolla with two people inside the vehicle, according to CHP.
Both of the people in the Corolla died at the scene.
Their identities are yet to be revealed.
The driving of the SUV was briefly trapped in the vehicle and admitted to an hospital with serious injuries. A woman passenger in the SUV and a child in the backseat sustained small injuries.
A third vehicle hit the vehicle after the initial crash.
Investigation into the crash is ongoing and concerning lanes were closed for the time being.
