Two people were killed in a hit-and-run car crash on State Road 46 near the intersection with Wekiva Pines Boulevard in Lake County, Florida just after 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The driver of a vehicle described only as a possible red sedan was Westbound on SR-46 trying to pass other cars in an area designated as a no-pass zone due to construction in the area.
Another vehicle driven by a 22-year-old Orlando man was moving eastbound and swerved to prevent the oncoming car but overcorrected and drove into oncoming traffic.
Officials say the 22-year-old driver hit a third car head-on. The at-fault vehicle also sideswiped the third vehicle before departing from the scene, continuing westbound on SR-46.
A 56-year-old Eustis woman, the driver of the third vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the second vehicle, identified only as a 19-year-old Eustis woman, succumbed to her injuries at Central Florida Regional hospital.
The 22-year-old driver was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.
