Volkswagen has no plans to remove 30,000 jobs, CEO Herbert Diess informed staff in an internal video message, which was supposed to improve the relationship with the automaker’s works council that deteriorated in recent times.
It was reported last month that the automaker is cutting 30,000 jobs.
Diess said he was in talks with labor representatives on how the automaker’s plant in Wolfsburg could be transformed to better compete with new sector entrants like Tesla Inc.
“But the main focus is not on job reduction, it’s about remaining competitive in the new world, with new capabilities,” Diess added.
